The kids have been having a marvelous time swimming. The only snag in that fun was the swim test. To be able to swim at will without a parent next to you (or to have to wear a life jacket.... yes, even up to 16 years old!!) is to pass this test. Officially, the kids have to swim 50 meters of a "recognizable" stroke. But elementary backstroke is not allowed. And the regular backstroke can only be done for half the swim. So it is tough. And after they swim the 50 meters, they have to tread water for 2 minutes.
Callie and Delaney managed to do a passable breaststroke and passed the test. Marian put it off as long as possible, but finally made the attempt and her crawl stroke was deemed acceptable. Joshua stalled till the 4th of July before he succumbed and a thoughtful lifeguard decided his atrocious crawl was sufficient. So the 4 older kids can all swim all over the pool. Yay! Ryle still needs supervision, but she is only 5!
Marian is delighted she can finally go on the slide, after passing the swim test. That's her, at the top.
Slides make the pool so much more fun.
Delaney is a fish.
She loves that she can use the diving board.
