A Days Activity: Daddy Daughter Olympics

 The Activity Day Girls had a Daddy Daughter Olympics for their activity. Rylee was excited about it, but Delaney was not.  We convinced her to go and she did have a good time.  It sounded like they had a lot of fun.

Youth Activity Day

 the YM planned a fun trip to Ie Island.  they were going to take the ferry to the island, and then bike around it.  The YW decided to jump on board.  So Dan took Josh, Marian and Callie.

The weather was as good as possible- overcast, breezy and muggy. Here are all the folks who pedaled and sweated all day. (It was suppose to be about a 15 mile bike ride!)

This is how enthusiastic they were about all that biking!

They took a break from the bikes and climbed the peak on the island and got this magnificent view. 

 And the island was beautiful.  The kids came back absolutely toasted with sunburn, but they had a good experience.  Josh and Marian want to go to the top of the peak again.  (But without the rest of the biking!)

Delaney has a Good Friend

Delaney had a very good friend, Annabelle, who lived across the parking lot from us in Iwakuni.  The whole family was pretty awesome and we were very lucky.  Then we moved.  Sad face.

Fortunately, these lovely people have come to Okinawa, twice now. They came over Memorial Day weekend and asked to spend as much time as possible with Delaney.  They did go our and do some fun things.  We went to dinner together the first night.

After that, they came and took her away of fun excursions.  Rylee was very sad to not get to go along, and I confess, it looks like Delaney had a marvelous time and I was a little jealous as well.

She got to go glass blowing! Apparently the helpers did most of the work, but Delaney got to help. This is spinning the stick while blowing into the tube.

They helped her blow the glass and do all the stuff.  She said it was very hot.

She also said it was very cool. 

She made a beautiful little glass cup.  A small cup, but a very pretty one!  She was excited to bring it home.

they also learned how to make salt!

Apparently they took a lot of seawater and boiled it down to salt.

It was very clumpy, very fine salt.

They got to bring home a cute little pot of salt.

And Delaney got herfirsyt pedicure!  She LOVED it. And who wouldn't love getting pampered while eating ice cream?!

She had very cute little piggies when she came home.

Delaney also got to co walk down the seawall and the beach.  She had a really good time with her friend.  She is lucky to be able to make good friends and hold onto them.

Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch.......

 While I was galavanting around the globe, Dan was holding down the fort and doing a marvelous job.  I did miss some rather important events, and I did feel vast amounts of guilt about that.

Callie LOVED her Drama class this year.  And she was very excited about the performance. Here she is being a big sister who is teasing her little sister.

And here she is a business woman, late for a meeting. Dan said she did a great job. 

I thought this was a photo, but apparently it is the video Dan took of her monolog.  It may or may not come thru as a video.  I'm sorry if it doesn't, but it was the only photo of the monolog.  She worked hard on it.

The YM went rock climbing for an activity and Josh was actually enthusiastic about it. 

The YM president sent pictures to document Josh having actual fun. 

And Rylee got to go with Callie to volunteer at the animal shelter.  There was much joy and many kittens.

Korea Pictures

Hanging out, waiting for my flight from Oki to Korea. It was about a 2 hour flight and I flew on our least favorite airline- Peach, because the price was right.

I had a window seat, which I rarely get.  But it was nice.  The is my first look at Korea out the window.

Our room at the Dragon Hill Lodge.  It was a really nice place to stay with a lot to do.

Our subway entrance.  We were afraid we wouldn't know where to get back out!  But we only took the subway once. We did use the station as a place for our clueless taxi driver to get us close enough to the base!  This subway entrance is about an 8 minute walk from the hotel on base.

We were not sure how we felt about this!  Gas mask stations in the subway?!!

I was so excited to be adulting properly and figuring out how to get where we wanted to go, so I had to document it in this selfie.

April, at one of the 8 or so stations.

 This one was weird!  They put numbing drops in your eyes, and then put these stiff cardboard things on your bottom eyelid.  It only felt like you had something in the corner of your eye- not painful, just odd.  It measured your tear production.  You had to sit there for 5 minutes.

 This is how happy we were after we were done.  So happy!

 Found a Peanut's shop in the area and needed this picture for my dad.

 The Korean War Memorial was just across the street and down a block from the Base gate to the hotel.  It was awesome.

There were tons of different aircraft and stuff to check out. 

 They had a real boat (ship?!) that had been damaged in an altercation and still had shrapnel holes in it.  We had a great time looking at it.

The Museum had the history of Korea and some cool stuff, like this 1:2.5 scale boat.

And the castle replica was gorgeous.
